ETA Gallery: What inspired you to become an artist and photographer?
Chelsea Ning: I began my journey with art at a very young age, finding it endlessly fascinating. Inspiration came from various sources, and art became an integral part of my life. I often find myself intrigued by ideas that I wish to express or interpret artistically. Art allows me to explore my mind and interpret the world around me. As for photography, it stemmed from my fascination with two-dimensional art forms like paintings. I find photography relatable and enjoy experimenting with different approaches.

ETA: Where do you draw your inspiration from?
CN: Inspiration can come from anywhere, ranging from simple everyday occurrences to more complex concepts. I have a vivid imagination and often ponder on various scenarios or questions. Currently, I’m exploring the relationship between myself and my surroundings, examining how I perceive the world around me.

ETA: Describe your creative process. How do you approach a new project or piece of work?
CN: My creative process is usually spontaneous. I typically start with an idea and sometimes contemplate it further before execution. However, there are instances where ideas come naturally to me without much deliberation. When I face challenges in finding inspiration, I try to relax and avoid overthinking, allowing ideas to flow more freely.

ETA: Are there any recurring themes or subjects in your artwork or photography?
CN: As an artist, themes and subjects evolve over time as I grow and learn. While I don’t adhere to specific recurring themes, some aspects of my work may resonate with viewers, creating a sense of continuity. Currently, I’m exploring personal experiences and how they intersect with the experiences of others who share a similar background.

ETA: Are there any photographers who have significantly influenced your work or whom you admire?
CN: Yes, there are several photographers whose work I find compelling. One notable example is Irina Rozovsky. Her photography is captivating and offers layers of depth upon closer examination. I admire her ability to convey intricate details that may go unnoticed at first glance. Exploring her work allows me to appreciate the nuances and find resonance between our artistic expressions.

ETA: Where do you see your work going in the future?
CN: At present, photography is my primary medium, but I’m open to exploring other forms of media such as film, projections, sculpture, and installations. While the future is uncertain, I’m committed to continuing my artistic journey and embracing new avenues of creative expression.
