The term “popping the bubble” in glassblowing refers
to the action of introducing a bubble into a mass of glass by breaking the initial surface tension of the solid material in order to start a blown project. Curated by ETA Gallery, and in collaboration with UrbanGlass, Popping the Bubble will be an exhibition that strives to break the glass art world bubble and create new connections between different disciplines of art. With a focus on collaborative and interdisciplinary art, Popping the Bubble will present works by both glass and non-glass artists – exploring how the first breath of creation can grow, stretch, reshape, and hold new ideas.
Popping the Bubble will be a group show that responds to the possibilities of what the future holds for art and artists, whether that manifests as introspection on an individual level, or the sharing of knowledge, collaboration, and the creation of new artist communities. Through connecting artists of different disciplines and the exchange of ideas, Popping the Bubble will create a space for open dialogue, furthering ETA’s commitment to building a broader contemporary arts community.
